Promoting Green Youth Employability: Emerging Skills and Green Jobs in the Youth Sector.

Introduction

In an era where sustainability is at the forefront of global concerns, the project “Green Youth Employability: Emerging Skills and Jobs for a Fair and Green Society” aims to equip young people and the youth sector with the necessary skills to navigate the growing green job market.

Through the project, a survey was conducted to assess the needs and interests of various groups operating in the youth sector, including young people themselves. The report is an analysis of the received results, showcasing trends in four European countries: Italy, Spain, Slovakia, and Slovenia.

In this way, the project aims to bridge the gap between the aspirations of young people and the demands of the job market through non-formal education and blended learning.

Report Results

The GYE report offers an overview of the needs and interests of various groups involved in youth sustainability and employability.
Based on a survey involving young people, social and educational workers, public sector staff, human resource professionals, and environmental sustainability experts, the report highlights the need for green skills and job opportunities in the green sector.

Participants’ Perspectives

The survey revealed a strong recognition of environmental issues as a priority among participants.
56% rated environmental issues as a top priority, emphasizing the importance of addressing environmental challenges within communities.
However, the report also highlighted the need for greater awareness of green skills, with 44% of participants expressing uncertainty about the meaning of green skills.

Challenges and Opportunities

Despite recognizing the importance of green skills, the survey identified several challenges, including a lack of familiarity with the concept of green skills and the need for adequate education and resources.
The GYE project aims to address these challenges through a wide range of dissemination channels and educational initiatives to promote a deeper understanding of sustainable skills among young people and broader communities.

Conclusion

The Green Youth Employability project represents a crucial step towards creating a fairer and greener society. By providing young people with the skills and opportunities needed to integrate into the green job market, the project aims to ensure a sustainable future for new generations. Collaboration between various European organizations and the use of innovative methodologies represent a model of excellence for youth education and employability in the context of sustainability.
